Bhutanese Cordyceps Sinensis, also known as ‘Yartsa Goenbub’, or དབྱར་རྩྭ་དགུན་འབུ་  (summer grass, winter worm), is a fascinating parasitic fungus. Unlike most fungi that feed on decaying matter, Cordyceps specifically targets insects and other arthropods. Each species of Cordyceps has a preferred host, showcasing the unique relationship between the fungus and its prey. With over 600 species found globally, the Cordyceps genus boasts incredible diversity. However, the most famous member is undoubtedly Ophiocordyceps Sinensis, formerly known as Cordyceps Sinensis. This particular species parasitizes the larvae of the Hepialus moth, and its rarity and purported medicinal properties have earned it the title of the World’s Most Expensive Parasite.
